Enter any two of distance, time, and pace and this calculator solves for the third. Run 5 miles in 45:00 and it shows a 9:00 per-mile pace; give it a goal pace and a race distance to predict your finish time. Switch between miles and kilometers, and read the pace in minutes and seconds per unit.

The formula

pace = time ÷ distance; time = pace × distance; distance = time ÷ pace

Pace is total time divided by distance — seconds per mile or per kilometer. Rearranging gives finish time from a goal pace, or distance from a time and pace.

How to use it

  1. 1

    Pick what to solve for

Choose whether you want pace, time, or distance — the calculator asks for the other two.

  2. 2

    Enter your numbers

Enter distance with its unit (mi or km), and time as MM:SS or H:MM:SS. Pace is entered as minutes and seconds per unit.

  3. 3

    Read the result

Get your pace per mile or kilometer, your projected finish time, or the distance you'd cover — formatted in clock notation.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between pace and speed?
Pace is time per distance (minutes per mile); speed is distance per time (miles per hour). A 10:00 mile pace equals 6.0 mph — they're inverses.
How do I convert between miles and kilometers?
One mile is 1.609 km. A 9:00-per-mile pace is about 5:35 per kilometer; switch the unit and the calculator converts the distance for you.
Can I predict a race finish time?
Yes. Enter your goal pace and the race distance and choose to solve for time — it multiplies them to estimate your finish.
