Test Grade Calculator
Enter how many questions the test had and how many you answered correctly; this calculator divides correct by total, multiplies by 100, and shows the percentage with its letter grade. Get 23 of 25 right and it returns 92% — an A-. It also shows how many you missed, so grading a stack of papers takes seconds.
The formula
Divide the number right by the number of questions and multiply by 100. Wrong answers are simply the total minus the correct count.
How to use it
- 1
Enter the number of questions
Type the total questions on the test or quiz — the value you're scoring out of.
- 2
Enter how many were correct
Type the number answered correctly. The percentage and letter grade update as you type.
- 3
Read the score
You get the percentage, the matching letter grade, and the number missed — handy for writing a grade at the top of the page.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I grade a test with partial credit?
- Add up the points actually earned and the points possible, then enter those two totals instead of a question count — the percentage works the same way.
- What's a passing test score?
- Most US schools treat 60% (a D-) as the lowest passing grade, though many courses require 70% or a C- to pass. Check your syllabus for the exact cutoff.
- Can I grade out of an odd number like 37?
- Yes — enter any total. Getting 30 of 37 right returns 81.08%, which rounds to a B-.
